Root cause analysis software compared (2026)

Root cause analysis software turns a defect or complaint into a traced chain from symptom to verified cause and action. Which tool fits depends on where the problem sits: in quality, safety, maintenance or IT. This page compares seven options for quality problems in manufacturing.

How we compared

We looked at the products that AI assistants and search engines name most often when a quality engineer asks for root cause analysis software for manufacturing: two dedicated RCA tools, an incident investigation system, two quality management suites with CAPA and a production and maintenance platform. IT incident tools and general whiteboards are left out, because they answer a different question. For each product we read the vendor's own pages and noted what they state about methods, AI, reuse of solved cases, audit trail, hosting, public prices and interface languages. "Not stated" means the vendor's pages do not mention it; the feature may still exist. Columns are in alphabetical order.

Which tool fits which team

EasyRCA
An asset-heavy plant where reliability and maintenance teams run PROACT logic-tree RCAs and want unlimited users per plant at a published price.
Fabrico
A plant whose main need is automatic downtime capture, OEE and maintenance work orders, with stop causes backed by video rather than a written investigation.
MasterControl
A life sciences manufacturer that needs a validated cloud quality system with Part 11 and Annex 11 controls, in which CAPA and 8D are one part.
Octave Reliance
An enterprise that wants one configurable cloud QMS for many sites, with CAPA, audits, documents, training, suppliers and EHS together.
Sologic Causelink
Teams that investigate many kinds of events, including IT, safety and quality, or one investigator who wants a low-cost single-user licence.
SolveR by Galileon
Quality, production and R&D engineers in manufacturing who solve customer complaints with 8D and other methods, want AI help on each step and want every closed case reused on the next similar one, with data hosted in the EU.
TapRooT
Investigations of safety, process safety or environmental incidents where human performance matters, run by TapRooT-trained investigators.

Three questions to ask any root cause analysis software vendor

  1. Is it made for quality problems in production, or for IT incidents and maintenance stops?
  2. Does the AI guide the analysis, or does it only fill in fields?
  3. Does it bring back what solved cases taught, inside the next investigation?

Frequently asked questions

What is root cause analysis software?

Software that takes a problem from the first symptom to a verified cause and an action, with the evidence on record. Most tools offer methods such as 5 Why, Ishikawa or a cause tree, assign actions to owners and keep an audit trail.

Is a 5 Why or Ishikawa template enough?

For a few cases a year it often is. A template does not check the logic of the analysis, and finding a similar old case means searching through files. When problems repeat or several engineers investigate, guided steps and a searchable history save that time.

How is root cause analysis for manufacturing quality different from IT root cause tools?

IT tools look for the cause of a software outage in logs and metrics. Quality root cause analysis in production starts from a defect or a customer complaint, works with parts, processes and people, and ends in corrective actions and a report the customer or auditor accepts, often an 8D.

Which root cause analysis tools use AI?

In this comparison, EasyRCA (beta) reads reports, maintenance logs and photos and suggests tree nodes and corrective actions, Sologic Causelink suggests causes and solutions and drafts summary reports, Octave Reliance names smart recommendations for root cause analysis, Fabrico suggests stop causes from camera footage, MasterControl summarises CAPAs and deviations, and SolveR suggests causes and actions from the plant's own closed cases. TapRooT's page on AI from August 2025 names no AI in the software.

Where is my data stored?

Check this before any trial. SolveR states AWS in the EU (Ireland). Fabrico states AWS in the EU on its security page and Germany or the USA on its pricing page. EasyRCA processes data in the USA and uses OpenAI for its AI. MasterControl states a global processing location, and Sologic Causelink says data may be stored worldwide. Octave Reliance (AWS) and TapRooT (Microsoft Azure) do not name a region on their pages.

Bring one open case to a 30-minute call. We put it into SolveR in front of you, and you decide if a pilot makes sense.
